Monumen Nasional (Monas)
The National Monument or popularly abbreviated as Monas or Tugu Monas is a 132 meter (433 ft) high memorial monument erected to commemorate the resistance and struggle of the Indonesian people to seize independence from the colonial rule of the Dutch East Indies. President Soekarno began the construction of the monument on August 17 1961 and it officially opened on 12 July 1975.
