Best Bars in Thamrin

Jalan M.H. Thamrin or more commonly known as simply Jalan Thamrin is a major thoroughfare in Jakarta. Developed in the 1950s, the road was a landmark of post-colonial Indonesia and continues to have prominent importance within the coming years. Thus, it’s been a witness to various offices of multinational companies due to this prestigious predicate among the other districts/avenues in Jakarta. Within this fast-paced district, the high demand for also an expensive lifestyle calls for several nightclubs and bars to be opened in the area. Whilst some have been running strong for a couple of years now, some also didn’t manage to keep up with the competition and eventually fell short. In this manner, we’ve compiled a list of five bars you must visit whenever you’re in Thamrin!

Paulaner Brauhaus

Modeled after house-brewed selection of German beers and casual dining, Paulaner boasts a 400-seat establishment serving traditional Bavarian food coupled with German lager. It’s one of the best bars in Thamrin. When you first enter this pub, you’ll be welcomed with the exhilarating city views and lively, happy chatters from all across the room. Topped with live music performances in the evening, you can also watch your favorite sports team play on their screens!

But what makes Paulaner unique, however, is not merely their mixed beer or Bavarian food, but Paulaner also hosts the only authentic Oktoberfest in the country. How cool is that? Their sixth one is held last year during September. Be sure to keep yourself updated if you’re looking to join their seventh annual event!

Very good beer and pork. Crispy and juicy. And the live music is good too.

The Back Room – Pullman

The Back Room, tucked inside Pullman—one of the luxury hotels in Jakarta—is an elegant watering hole resembling a traditional colonial club. Like its parent, Pullman, the Back Room also sports an elegant interior representing their wide array of fine-dining menus and classic cocktails. If you’re looking to get classy and enjoy your beverage with small, elegant sips, the Back Room is the place to go.

We highly recommend their signature cocktails, particularly the renowned Negroni 59, Dirty Star, and the Baller’s Spiced Drop inspired by their very own award-winning bartender. Aside from that, the Back Room also serves Indonesian local delicacies like Sate Maranggi or light bites such as Calamari and Parmesan Truffle Fries.

Burgundy Bar – Grand Hyatt

Burgundy Bar poses as another stylish bar nestled inside one of Jakarta’s most popular hotels, Grand Hyatt. Whether you’re sitting by the bar with the dimmed red modernist neon lights, or enjoying the cityscape view next to the huge glass pane over to the edge, you’ll find Burgundy Bar living up to its name the first time you visit—it’s all fifty shades of red!

Burgundy Bar is also one of the best and classiest hotel bars in Jakarta. The easy atmosphere and relaxing vibe make this place a must-visit in our list. Aside from the overall feel, you’ll fall in love with this place by simply tasting their wide menu of finger foods and beverages. From beers, champagne, to cocktails and martinis, we can most definitely recommend this place if you happen to be near the Hyatt area!

One of the best and classiest hotel bars in Jakarta. One of my all-time favorites too. Their music and ambiance make you feel quite relaxed. They’re quite accommodating in that you can order from anywhere in the hotel and enjoy it at Burgundy.

Cloud Lounge

Cloud Lounge lives up to its name; visitors are immediately welcomed by the vast cityscape sight of Jakarta, enjoyable both during the night and day. Sit back and unwind, whilst letting the gentle breeze sweep your thoughts away as you bask yourselves in the atmosphere of this second-tallest rooftop bar in Jakarta. Aside from an extensive selection of European to Western culinary, Cloud Lounge also partners with the Macallan—a distillery originating from Scotland—specializing top-class single malt whiskey right to your fingertips. 

When we say their Rossini Truffle Burger is really good, trust us; because it is! Prudently cut foie gras and shaved black truffle leveled this dish by another notch we didn’t know even existed. While you’re at it, why not have a glass of 12 YO Sherry Oak presented by the Macallan as their partners? All we can say is, prepare to be taken to cloud nine by both the atmosphere and the tasteful drinks on Cloud Lounge.

Best place to enjoy the city view. Good cocktails, good foods, and hospitality.

Afterhour

Known as the local pioneer for a billiard-themed bar operating since 2001 in Thamrin, Afterhour provides a cozy spot to chill to unwind after a long day of work. Play pool with your friends while easily sipping their recommended beverages. For those not willing to drink alcohol, however, Afterhour provides a series of alternatives that you can pick from—so do not fret! Oh, and DJ performances commonly took place in the later parts of the evening.

Afterhour serves a particular selection of international food—some of them are even homemade! For example, Cajun Chicken Pasta and Nasi Goreng Buntut (Oxtail Fried Rice) are two of their recommended dishes.

A famous place for playing billiard with friends and drinking together, music also sounds great! There are many good quality pool tables placed here. You can get anyone of it and enjoy the night time.
