Things To Do During This Quarantine
As the coronavirus continues to spread, authorities across the globe have advised people to stay in and practice social distancing. Going into a self-quarantine can cause many complex issues. In terms of entertainment, it also probably means you’re in for a lot of boredom, a lot of Netflix or Youtube, and you’ve probably caught up to everyone’s post on Instagram before lunch. But that doesn’t mean you can’t have a good time while being stuck at home. Down here, we’ve put together a list of 9 things to do during this quarantine:
1. Learn a new skill
You know all those things you said you’ve wanted to do but never had the time for? Well, now is the time. In this case, Youtube is your friend. There are thousands of tutorials that are easy to follow available on Youtube. You could learn how to cook, draw, bake, make your own soap, etc. – basically everything. Download Duolingo and learn a new language. You’ll be a whole new person by the end of this quarantine.
2. Stay active
Good mental health promotes good physical health. Unfortunately, most gyms and fitness classes are temporarily closed. But lucky for you, there are tons of Youtube videos that will help you stay fit. Not just that, many influencers have been posting tutorials of at-home workouts such as yoga, zumba, and many more. If you’re a sucker for yoga, Yoga with Adriene is a great channel for you. There are also several apps that are helpful to maintain your workout progress such as Fitbit, Map My Fitness, and Sworkit. If it’s possible, go for a walk (with your pets if you have any). If it’s not safe to go outside, you can always walk around the house and try to go up and down the stairs to get your blood pumping. So don’t make any excuses and stay active!
3. Treat yourself to an at-home spa day
Do some facemasks and take a nice warm bubble bath with one of Lush’s bath bombs while lighting up your favorite scented candle! Do your nails and try out your new makeup or skincare. Your body needs to relax after all. Don’t forget to turn on the music and just soak in the atmosphere. With all the stressing news going on these days, don’t feel selfish for taking some time for yourself.
4. Clean your house
If you wonder what things you can do to pass the time, then it’s probably the right time to clean your house. Get all the laundry that has been piling up done, sweep your floor, and vacuum your rug. Do yourself a favor and put your headphones on while mopping the floor. Go through your old stuff and Marie-Kondo the hell out of it. This is such an unsettling time for everyone, make sure to spread kindness by donating some of your old-stuff or take some time to support your local hospitals and doctors by donating money to help them buy more medical equipment.
5. Work on your cooking skills
Even in the most stressful moments, we need to eat healthy foods. This is the time for you to try some recipes you haven’t had time to get to and improve your cooking-skill. You can cook with your family members or your partner as a little distraction from stress. See what you have in your pantry and whip up a new meal. If you’re a sweet tooth, try to bake simple foods like cookies or banana cake. There are plenty of simple recipes for beginners on YouTube. Stock up on pasta, rice, canned vegetables, and spices so that more recipes are within reach.
6. Netflix and chill
Now you finally have the time to tick off your movie/tv-series bucket-list. We’ve picked top 10 TV shows on Netflix to keep you busy:
1. I’m Not Okay With This
2. The Office
3. Stranger Things
4. When They See Us
5. The Crown
6. The Good Place
7. Money Heist
8. Elite
9. Narcos
10. Sex Education
Just because you’re in self-quarantine, does not mean you and your friends have to forgo your movie-night parties. Netflix Party lets friends in different places watch movies together from their own homes. There is even a chat feature so you can talk to them while you watch the same shows.
7. Socialize
Use this time to reconnect with family members or old friends that you haven’t spoken to in a while. Maybe give your uncle or your favorite cousin a call. Reach out to your lovely grandparents too to keep them company. You can also Facetime or Skype your friends that you haven’t seen and do some fun activities together virtually. There are so many people that you can reach out to! Keep your relationships active.
8. Look around virtual museums
Although museums across the globe are temporarily closed due to the outbreak, you can still explore hundreds of them virtually through Google Arts & Culture. It’s an online platform that provides free access to some of the world’s famous collection of arts. With more than 2500 museums and galleries have partnered up with Google, you can explore them in the comfort of your own bed. Google also offers a Street View tour so you can feel as if you’re actually wandering its halls. The collection of Google Arts & Culture includes the British Museum in London, the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Guggenheim in New York City and hundreds of more places.
9. Sleep
It’s the perfect time for you to fix your sleep schedule – at least make sure to have 8-hours of sleep a day. You can take a much-needed nap during your work-from-home break with less guilt. Download some sleep apps to help you wind down. You can choose between relaxing voices, bed-time stories, or calming music. Our personal favorites are Calm and Headspace. Sweet dreams.
Now, go make the most of your coronavirus quarantine. Stay safe, folks!
